The Oris vintage Divers Sixty-Five Replica collection from Oris expands with a new model available in a 42 mm stainless steel case.
At the same time, while maintaining a vintage look, the new model benefits of modern improvements: the black aluminium inlay bezel is unidirectional, the bubble-curved glass is made of sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating inside, and the hands and hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova in place of the tritium used in the 1960s.
New rubbed-down leather and textile NATO straps join the black rubber strap and stainless steel bracelet options.
The largest of the series, the new Divers Sixty-Five 42 mm comes with a choice of metal bracelet, leather and NATO straps.
For the first time, the Divers Sixty-Five has a dark blue, curved dial, offset by vintage-coloured luminescent material.
The case – guaranteeing water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet – houses the 4 Hz (28,800) automatic movement Oris Calibre 733 based on Sellita SW 200-1. The case back is engraved with the historic shield of the brand.
Launched in 2015, the Divers Sixty-Five collection is inspired to one of the first diver’s replica watches designed by Oris Mens Replica in 1965. Details like the slim line case, the thin bezel with 60-minute scale, and the trapezoid date window at 3 o’clock are directly taken from the original.
At Baselworld 2016, both Tudor and Oris joined the fray with their first bronze cased models. A casual glance may fool the wearer into thinking this is a black dial, however, it is most definitely blue with a gloriously beguiling appearance. Quite simply, I adore the dial colour of this watch.
Over the last few years, blue watch dials have become increasingly popular. Indeed, I am a huge fan of blue dials. However, the blue shade employed on this special Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition is unlike any other I have seen. The tone is incredibly dark, reminiscent of the deepest ocean viewed at dusk.
The unusual blue curved dial, the rose gold-plated hands and hour markers and curved sapphire crystal bestow a stylish appearance. After wearing this perfect bronze Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition replica watch for a few days, I have grown to appreciate the matt, almost distressed, appearance of this material and can understand its growing popularity. We are now living in a horological bronze age. Where the Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition particularly stands out in the marketplace is that it features this interesting case material.
Unlike some watches which reference diving, the diving Oris replica watch is comparatively modest in scale, measuring an agreeable 42mm in diameter. Indeed, the scale of this watch, in my opinion, is an attribute, suiting a broad cross section of the watch buying public.
Whilst this classic Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition replica watch makes reference to diving with its unidirectional bezel and the depiction of Brashear’s helmet on the case back, the maximum water resistance of 100 metres would preclude it from being used as a professional diver’s watch.
